Guard Your Heart From Hate

Survivor to Thriver Coaching, LLC

This has been a tough week for me. My heart is heavy from the innocent bloodshed caused by senseless acts of violence by people who have no respect for life.

But I make this choice:

  • I will not hate.

  • I will not fight hate with hate.

  • The darkness will not overtake me like it did in the past.

The Murder of Iryna Zarutska

I’ll never forget the look of terror and confusion on her face when the man sitting behind her stabbed her in the neck.
She had escaped war-torn Ukraine, searching for a better life. In an instant, a 14-time criminal stole it from her.

The worst part? No one stepped in. The woman sitting next to her, the men behind her—no one moved. They showed no respect for life. By the time someone finally helped, it was too late. Her innocent blood had already been spilled.

Still, I will not hate.

The Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, commentator, and founder of Turning Point USA.

Whether you agreed with his views or not, he was practicing his right to free speech. He spent years on college campuses debating students, pushing them to think for themselves. He was a family man, a man of faith, and never shied away from his values.

And then, in front of his family, he was assassinated. One moment he was speaking, the next he was on the ground, his life taken by a bullet.

Still, I will not hate.

Choosing Not to Hate

These two events shook me this week. They broke my heart. I could have easily gone down the path of hate, hate for those who committed these acts, hate for those celebrating them.

But I’ve been there before. During my years of dealing with trauma, hate nearly destroyed me.

So, I choose again:

  • I will not hate.

A Warning to You

Do not let hate fill your heart.
Do not let it tell you that everyone is evil, that the world is doomed.

That is not true. There is still good happening all around us, good people doing good things. You may not see it on the headlines as often as the darkness, but it’s there.

Hate is a poison. It will rot you from the inside out if you let it in.

What This Doesn’t Mean

This does not mean I will stay silent. I will still speak my truth. I will still stand up for what is right. But I will not do it from a place of hate.

Hate is not strength. It only breeds more destruction.

I’ve hated before; the man who sexually abused me. And I learned this: hate didn’t destroy him. It destroyed me.

So yes, I hate what these people did. I hate the actions of those mocking or excusing these murders. But I will not hate the people themselves. I will not weaponize hate.

Guard Your Heart

Guard your heart and your mind from hate.
Don’t let emotions drag you into it.
Don’t listen to the noise that says hate is the answer.

It’s never the answer.

The path forward is courage, truth, and action, without hate.

Stay positive and take action!
