How Do You Handle Change?

Our Trip to California

We drove to the airport, completed the security check-in, and were ready to go.

Everything was on time and going along perfectly, until it wasn’t.

This is how last Saturday afternoon was going until our flight was cancelled.

Our flight was cancelled due to the CrowdStrike issue and because they had no flight attendants.

We were on our way to California to visit friends.

We had been stationed there for three and a half years when I was in the Navy, and we loved living there.

We’ve been planning to get back there for years.

We were really looking forward to this trip.

It would have been easy to go back home and cry about not being able to go however, that thought didn’t even cross my mind.

The first thing I did was go talk to someone about getting our checked bags back so that we could start our 20-hour drive.

Yes, the drive from San Antonio, TX to Thousand Oaks, CA was 1,500 miles or 20 hours.

We didn’t plan on this happening, but I was already thinking about it in case it happened, and I was ready to drive.

As soon as our flight said “cancelled,” I turned to my wife and said, “let’s drive!”

I think she hesitated for a minute, but my enthusiasm was contagious!

She couldn’t say no!

We got there 24 hours later than we would have, and we were able to stay 24 hours past our departure date and time.

It all worked out in the end.

What would you have done?

How do you handle changes like this?

It’s easy to get discouraged and feel sorry for yourself.

It’s easy to say that nothing ever works out for you, or you can’t have anything good happen, or that it wasn’t meant to be.

The hard part is finding a way to make it happen, even if it’s not the most ideal option.

You see, it was a long drive.

We should have gone back home, but we didn’t.

Life’s too short for that shit.

We packed out shit in the car and took off to have a great week with our friends.

We made new memories and don’t regret it at all.

This doesn’t just happen overnight; you have to develop this attitude with intention.

It’s a mindset. It’s making the best out of a bad situation.

Next time you face a challenge, don’t back down.

Think about your next move. Find another option to complete the mission.

Stay positive and take action!
