Don't Play the Comparison Game

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” - Ernest Hemmingway

One of the quickest ways to feel defeated and stop doing what you enjoy doing is by comparing yourself to others.

The only person you should be comparing yourself to is the person you are today to the person you were yesterday.

This means we should focus on becoming a little better today than we were yesterday.

If you do this long enough, you’re going to be really good at whatever it is you’re doing.

A little progress every day compounds.

It starts to add up quickly.

You must be aware of when you start comparing yourself to others and stop yourself immediately.

What’s even worse is when you compare your day one to someone else’s day 300.

It sounds crazy, but I know I would do this all the time.

I remember when I first started playing guitar.

Slash from Guns N Roses was always my favorite.

I would hear him play and think to myself, “I’m never going to be as good as Slash.”

I didn’t want to play anymore when I did that.

I felt there was no point if I could never be that good.

Have you done this before?

It’s not only ridiculous to think this way, but it’s arrogant as well.

Next time you start comparing, stop yourself and ask yourself, “Am I a little better today than I was yesterday?”

If you are, then good for you.

If you’re not, then make some adjustments and start getting after it!

Stay positive and take action!
