New Year, New You?
Nope, That Shit Doesn't Matter, It's Now That Matter's

I know, you’re probably thinking, “What the fu*k Mark, New Year’s has past and you’re going to write about this?”
Yes, this is a post about New Year’s Resolutions.
“I no longer believe in New Year’s Resolutions, I believe in daily resolutions.” - Unknown
Did you know (no, of course you don’t because you don’t know what I do during the day) that I was reading a statistic about the average percentage of people that quit New Year’s Resolutions in the first month?
I couldn’t fu*king believe the percentage of people that quit New Year’s Resolutions in the first month, the first month!
It was in the mid 40% range.
Did you know there’s a Quitter’s Day?
I didn’t know this until recently when I saw it in a commercial.
It’s the second Friday in January and mark’s the point when some begin to “re-evaluate” their New Year’s Resolutions.
Almost 50% percent of people will quit their New Year’s Resolutions within the first month of the New Year.
That is absolutely insane to me.
So, why do we still make such a big deal about New Year’s Resolutions, I don’t know.
I think some of it has to do with the excitement and the fact that a New Year feels like a new start for all of us.
You know, the chance to start over and turn your life around.
Here’s the problem with that thinking.
Whether you decide to change your life today or you decide to change your life on January 1st, the process is going to be the same.
“Change is a process not an event.” - Barbara Johnson
You’re going to have to show up every day and put in the work.
It doesn’t get easier if you wait until January 1st.
It’s not going to be easy.
You’re going to have good days and bad days.
What’s worse to me is having this fantasy that riding that momentum going into 2025 is going to be so beneficial.
This is a topic for another day, but this is the definition of motivation.
Motivation is good, but it’s not going to sustain you.
Motivation ends when you don’t want to show up and put in the work.
You see that motivation you get by starting on January 1st is going to wear off fast and not sustain the changes you want to make.
Stop looking for motivation and start getting real with yourself.
Sit down and craft out a vision of who you want to become in life.
I’m talking about a detailed vision.
“Make your vision so clear that your fears become irrelevant.” - Kerwin Rae
Don’t leave anything out and make sure you go big.
Now, design a roadmap that is going to help you get there.
A roadmap that includes smaller goals and actions you can take every day to make a little progress towards reaching your ideal vision.
Once you have that vision written out, focus on that shit every day.
Always have that vision in front of you, always.
It’s always going to be harder than you think and take longer than you think to make significant change in your life, so waiting to start is not going to help you, but it’s just going to delay progress.
What To Do Going Forward
Okay, let’s talk about the best thing you can do from this point forward.
You have your vision of what you want your future to look like.
Pick something small that you can start doing today that aligns with that vision.
For example, if your vision is to get in shape, then start setting your workout clothes next to your bed the night before, get up when your alarm goes off, and put on your workout clothes.
That’s it, something small that will start driving the change you desire.
Now, the important part is to do this consistently.
The goal here is to build consistency which will lead to discipline.
Once you get up every morning and put on your workout clothes for let’s say two weeks, then take the next step which may be going outside.
Start doing this consistently, then build up from there.
It’s all about taking small steps and building consistency until you reach discipline.
Discipline is the game changer.
Discipline is when your actions become automatic, and you do it even when you don’t want to.
This is how you start winning.
You don’t do it by deciding on January 1st you’re going to change your life, you do it by starting out with one small action and building that consistency and momentum.
Don’t Do It
Do not skip the part about writing out your vision.
Your vision is your reason for getting up in the morning.
This is what you should be looking at every day when you’re feeling stuck.
You must know where you want to go, or you’ll stay lost.
Don’t limit this vision either.
Make sure it gets you excited to get up in the morning.
You Got This
I promise you; you are much more capable than you think.
You just haven’t given yourself a chance.
The best thing you can do for yourself today is pick something small and take action.
Keep doing that small thing consistently, build momentum, and keep going.
You will be surprised at what you can achieve by taking consistent action.
Stay positive and take action!
