Saturday Morning Mindset: Redefining Strength

Survivor to Thriver Coaching, LLC

Strength isn’t about never breaking; it’s about choosing to rebuild. Vulnerability and resilience go hand-in-hand.

I felt broken for so many years. I believed healing wasn’t possible.

Vulnerability terrified me, whenever I felt it, I ran from it. For 20 years, I tried to heal on and off, but every time it got tough, or I started to truly feel something, I ran back to comfort.

Then came the turning point.

I realized that healing is a choice.
It’s not something that just happens, it’s a decision you make, and you must keep making it through the ups and downs. Healing requires commitment. It requires being relentless.

And here’s the paradox: the very thing I ran from, vulnerability, became my greatest source of strength.

When I finally opened up, addressed my past, and began sharing my story, I had never felt more vulnerable. But I had also never felt freer. That’s the truth about vulnerability: it’s where your strength is hiding.

When you face it, sit with it, and process what’s underneath it, your trauma begins to lose its grip. Vulnerability doesn’t weaken you; it empowers you.

Of course, healing doesn’t happen all at once. It’s messy. It’s filled with ups and downs. But it’s possible. And it’s worth it.

The truth is, I was never broken. None of us are.

Surviving sexual abuse or any trauma takes a special kind of strength. We often don’t recognize that strength in ourselves, but it’s there. It’s always been there.

You have it in you too.

For me, that strength was hidden inside my vulnerability. Once I embraced that, everything started to change.

Reflection Question: How has vulnerability made you stronger in the past?
