Saturday Morning Mindset: Reframing Self-Doubt
Survivor to Thriver Coaching, LLC
Self-doubt is not a stop sign; it’s just background noise.
You don’t have to silence it to move forward. You just can’t let it take the wheel.
If there’s one thing I know about fear and self-doubt, it’s this: they never fully go away. They’re always lurking, waiting for the chance to steal opportunities from you.
I know this from personal experience. During my Navy career, I passed up many opportunities because of self-doubt. Sure, I took chances on myself sometimes and had some big wins—but there were also countless moments I let fear hold me back.
Here’s an example: when I joined the Navy, I wanted to be a Navy SEAL. I got in incredible shape before boot camp, and I had multiple chances to volunteer for SEAL training. But I never did. Why? Because I was filled with fear and self-doubt. That’s the bottom line.
My healing journey has taught me something important: self-doubt will always be present, but it doesn’t have to control me anymore. Now, I recognize it, laugh at it, and move forward anyway. I know what I’m capable of. I trust that I’ll figure things out along the way.
And you can do the same. When you begin to heal, you realize just how strong you are—and self-doubt starts losing its grip.
One tool that has helped me tremendously is keeping a “Wins Journal” on my phone. Anytime I accomplish something—big or small—I write it down. Then, when self-doubt creeps back in, I look at that list. It reminds me of what I’ve already overcome and gives me the confidence to keep moving forward.
Remember this: your self-doubt is often a signal that you’re on the edge of something great. Instead of pulling back, lean in. Because amazing things are waiting on the other side.
Reflection Question: What has self-doubt stopped you from trying in the past?
Action Step: Take one small step toward something you’ve been hesitating on.
Stay positive and take action!
