Saturday Morning Mindset: Shame Versus Self-Worth
Survivor to Thriver Coaching, LLC
Shame is sneaky. It whispers lies that say, “You’re not enough. You’re broken. You don’t deserve healing.” But here’s the truth: shame is not who you are. It’s a story you’ve been handed, not the reality of your worth.
Shame plagued me for so many years. I believed these lies above, and it prevented me from starting my healing journey and becoming the person that I’m supposed to become. I constantly had those thoughts, “You’re not enough. You’re broken. You don’t deserve healing” running through my head. They played on a loop over and over and over again. It’s hard to heal or do anything to improve your situation if you’re constantly thinking these thoughts.
Self-worth is already within you, untouched by what happened, untouched by mistakes, untouched by what others said. Healing isn’t about becoming worthy. It’s about remembering that you already are.
When I started healing and addressed, processed, accepted, rebuilding my identity, and continue to sustain growth today, I realized I was enough, not broken, and deserved to heal. I knew I had to have compassion for myself and that it wasn’t my fault that I was feeling the way I felt.
Every time you choose compassion over criticism, every time you speak kindly to yourself instead of harshly, you peel away another layer of shame and reconnect with who you truly are. You start rewiring your brain for healing.
Reflection Question
What’s one story shame has told you that you’re ready to rewrite today?
Action Step
This week, write down that shame-story on a piece of paper. Then, underneath it, rewrite the truth about who you are. Keep it somewhere you’ll see daily.
Stay positive and take action!
