How Resilient Are You?

According to Merriam-Webster, resilience is “an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.”

This is an ability meaning, it’s something that can be developed.

Life’s not fair. It never was and it’s never going to be.

You’re going to face many challenges throughout your life.

You’re going to get knocked down plenty of times in life.

You build resilience by constantly getting back up after you’ve been knocked down.

You get to the point where you laugh when you get knocked down because you know what’s coming next.

I’m not saying it’s fun when you get knocked down, when you experience trauma, lose someone you love, or any serious life event, but you must get back up.

How resilient are you?

Here’s some reflection questions to help you make this determination:

1) Think about how you respond to challenges or setbacks. Do you give up quickly, or do you keep going despite difficulties?

2) How well do you adapt to change or uncertainty? Do you resist change, or do you try to adjust and find ways forward?

3) When faced with adversity, do you maintain a positive outlook or focus on the problems?

Take a look at how you answered these questions, and this will give you a good idea if you need to work on your resiliency or if you’re already pretty resilient.

Stay positive and take action!
