When the Past Comes Back
Survivor to Thriver Coaching, LLC
Just when you think you’re in the clear, that you’ve finally moved on, something happens that triggers everything you thought was gone.
All at once, it feels like it’s happening all over again.
You thought you’d put it away somewhere safe, somewhere it could never reach you again. But trauma doesn’t work like that.
You cannot ignore trauma. It stays with us whether we realize it or not.
And when it resurfaces, it hits hard. It shakes the ground beneath you. Most of us, honestly, all of us, are never truly prepared when it shows back up. I’ve been there myself, and I’ve seen it with every client I’ve worked with.
Trauma doesn’t disappear. It gets stored in our nervous system until it’s faced, processed, and healed.
It becomes part of who we are not because we’re broken, but because our bodies and minds are trying to protect us.
This is why I always say: Address it. Accept it. Rebuild your identity from it.
Closure isn’t the answer. Healing is a lifelong journey.
You won’t forget your past, and you don’t need to. You won’t “move on” in the traditional sense, but you can move forward with understanding and compassion.
We don’t forget.
We don’t move on.
We deal with it, we process it, and we rebuild from it. That’s healing.
It’s terrifying, yes. But here’s the truth, you’ve already survived something that should have destroyed you. That takes strength and courage most people will never understand.
There were many times I wanted to end it all just to escape the pain and the constant reminders. But I didn’t. And if you’re reading this, you didn’t either. That alone shows immense strength.
If you’re struggling right now and thinking about giving up, please reconsider.
Try healing before you do anything else.
Healing is possible.
And you are living proof of that possibility.
Stay positive and take action!
